Chawner’s and Rhode’s beautifully detailed survey of the Houses of Parliament, and in particular of those buildings associated with the House of Commons, was completed only two months before the fatal fire of 16 October 1834 that destroyed St. Stephen’s Chapel (the House of Commons) and its surrounding buildings.  The Society was proud to be given the privilege of publishing the survey in its entirety for the first time in this scale, thanks to developments in photography.
